During the COVID-19 pandemic, we as human beings are facing some major challenges such as social isolation, fearing illness, a loss of a job, financial strain and figuring out how to co-exist with our spouse and children 24 hours a day, or perhaps, living alone in complete isolation. Feelings of stress, anxiety, confusion, fear and uncertainty are to be expected. As we learn to navigate through these uncertain times we must remember that it’s essential to take care of our emotional and mental health. Essential oils can be used to support the body and help with emotional problems such as stress, anxiety, mood swings, and depression.
Here are some essential oils that can help you through the pandemic:
Symptoms can be tiredness, irritability, occasional depression, aches and pains, difficulty concentrating and in making decisions, withdrawal from society and fear.
There are many symptoms of anxiety including body tension, muscle pain, aches, overactivity, sweating, palpitations, dizziness, lump in throat, frequent urination or diarrhea, unease, apprehension, over anxiousness, feeling on edge and irritable, difficulty concentrating, insomnia and exhaustion.
Symptoms include feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and pessimism. Depression should be taken seriously and professional help should be sought.
Usually brought up by particular events in life, moody people can be frustrated, bored, isolated, irritable or bad tempered. To help balance mood swings the following oils can be used:
Most of these oils overlap with each other and can support the body for multiple emotions. You can create your own blend with 2-3 different oils or use them individually in a diffuser, a personal inhaler, in the bath or as a massage oil.
Please remember to always dilute the essential oils in a carrier oil before using topically or in the bath. I personally like to use half a cup of a full fat milk blended with 3-8 drops essential oil then poured in the bath. A general guideline for dilutions with a carrier oil is 1-2 drops of essential oil per 5 ml of carrier oil. This would equal a 1-2% dilution.
Caution should be used if you are pregnant or nursing. There are some contraindications on using certain oils. If you have any questions or need guidance on proper dilutions please contact our Aromatherapist.
